Quick Thinking in Action: HTTI Student Steps Up in a Critical Moment
At Health & Technology Training Institute (HTTI), we prepare our students with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to provide excellent patient care. On Saturday, January 18th, at Temple Hospital, HTTI student Maria DiTullio demonstrated just how essential those skills are when she sprang into action to assist a patient in distress. While assisting a patient who requested something to drink, Maria quickly noticed that he was unable to hold the cup. As she prepared to help him, she recognized something was wrong—the patient had stopped responding. Without hesitation, Maria called for the nurse just outside the room, who immediately assessed the situation and called for a rapid response team. Meanwhile, Maria remained with the patient, taking his vital signs and discovering that he was dangerously hypotensive. Thanks to her critical thinking and swift action, the medical team was able to intervene quickly and work to stabilize the patient. Maria’s ability to recognize the signs of an emergency and respond appropriately is a testament to her training, dedication, and compassionate approach to patient care. Reflecting on the experience, Maria expressed gratitude for her education at HTTI, crediting her instructors and the program’s hands-on training for preparing her to act decisively in a critical moment. "I appreciate the recognition, but the truth is, I was just doing my job," Maria said. "I am proud of myself and happy that I could help someone—a real person, a human being—with the critical thinking and skills that I have acquired over the last year." Maria’s story is a powerful reminder of why training, experience, and compassion are the foundations of excellent healthcare. HTTI is proud of Maria and all our students who go above and beyond to ensure patient safety and well-being. We’re excited to congratulate Ayla O. on her graduation from BAYADA Home Health Care's Nurse Residency Program! Ayla also joined the BAYADA Philadelphia Pediatrics office as a Home Health Aide and participated in BAYADA's Advance to LPN Program while enrolled in LPN school.
